InitialHint is a WordPress Plugin that shows a DHTML based DIV when someone is visiting your blog. The content of that hint can be any HTML.

General Information

InitialHint is based on DHTML. Actually, it is a DIV which is displayed with the Scriptaculous Javascript library. After displaying the hint, a cookie is set to remember that – otherwise the user would get the hint on every new page on your site. After a certain time (when the cookie expires), the hint is displayed again.
This plugin is derived from the Ultimate Google Analytics WP Plugin, thanks to Wilfred van der Deijl for the great code base.

Installation

1. Download the current Version
2. Unzip the file to your WordPress plugins folder (standard: wp-content/plugins/)
3. Go to the “Plugins” page in your WordPress administrative dashboard
4. Active the plugin
5. Go to the settings page in order to change the style and the content
6. You can find a description of the parameters below

Configuration

• Style – The InitialHint is coded as a DIV. You can use a standard CSS style to change the style of the hint, i.e. color, position, border, etc.
• Text – The content of the DIV can be any kind of HTML.
• Display time (in seconds) – This setting defines how long the hint remains visible before it it automatically removed
• Repeat time (in hours) – The repeat time defines the expiration date of the cookie which is used to remember the last time of the hint.
• Enable InitialHint – you can disable InitialHint without deactivating the plugin
